"Government time and again said that they will bring back the black money. Now where is their promise that 15 lakh [$24,260] will be deposited in each citizen's account. What happened to their poll promise? They should apologize to the public for their conduct," Tiwari stated.
Opposition members of parliament from the All India Trinamool Congress party (TMC) protested by wearing black shawls. On Wednesday, TMC members also waved black umbrellas inside the Parliament while protesting the issue.
Besides TMC, Janata Dal (U), Rashtriya Janata Dal and Samajwadi Party are also blaming the government for not fulfilling the electoral promise of bringing the money black.
"Government is flop on the issue of black money. My party will raise the issue so that the Indian public understands how the government is fooling them on black money," Samajwadi Party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav told Sputnik.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he would do everything possible to bring back every penny of black money.
Black money refers to funds on which income tax has not been paid. It is unclear how much money from India is stashed abroad. The government has repeatedly claimed that it will bring the tax evaders to justice. Nevertheless, the opposition claims the problem has not been addressed appropriately.
