FERGUSON, November 28 (Sputnik) – A cake shop owner whose premises were destroyed during Ferguson’s riots had raised more than $230,000 by Thursday afternoon, GoFundMe fund-raising website says.
Natalie Dubose, the owner of “Natalie’s Cakes and More” is raising money via the popular crowdfunding website GoFundMe to repair her cake shop vandalized during the street protests in Ferguson over the killing of an unarmed African-American teenager by a white lawman.
“My shop, which had its grand opening this summer was vandalized in the riots. My main windows were smashed and bakery damaged. I’m beside myself, but with the holidays, can’t stop working,” Dubose said on the website.
The cake shop owner stressed that “outpouring of support“ in the social networks amazed her, and added she was struggling to repair her bakery.
On Monday night, numerous buildings in Ferguson were set ablaze and looted, during the protests against grand jury's decision not to bring charges against Darren Wilson, a white policeman who shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old African-American.
The controversial jury decision also spawned a fresh round of protests in major cities across the US, where protesters and rioters clashed with police and a beefed-up deployment of 2,200 members of the National Guard.
