MOSCOW, November 28 (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom unveiled on Friday its plans to spend over one million pounds (almost $1.6 million) on conflict prevention activities in Ukraine in 2014-2015.
According to the document released on the government website, the UK Conflict Prevention Pool will fund four peacebuilding projects in crisis-torn Ukraine.
The UK intends to spend 316,000 pounds from September 2014 to March 2015 on strategies to transform conflicts on the Ukrainian border into the mediation process with the participation of local activists, journalists and authorities.
Some 238,000 pounds will be allocated to support dialogue among members of Ukraine's political parties in order to prevent any further escalation of tensions. More than 300,000 pounds will be spent on the facilitation of nationwide dialogue initiatives, while promoting the transformation of the "conflict between Ukraine and Russia" will have a funding of over 161,000 pounds.
The outlined peacebuilding projects in Ukraine, according to the document, are aimed at reducing tensions in the Ukrainian society and strengthening the Ukrainian government's capacity to communicate with its citizens.
The projects also pursue the goal of improving dialogue between citizens and the state and ensuring neutral and sensitive reporting about incidents and contentious issues.
