Winston Churchill: 'History Is Written by the Victors'

Sir Winston Churchill, who is considered to be one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th century, was born on November 30, 1874.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."

Churchill was named the Greatest Briton of All Time during an opinion poll conducted by the BBC in 2002.

"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."

"It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see."

Winston Churchill is the only British Prime Minister to have won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the first person to become an honorary citizen of the United States.
