"Customs clearing of cargo is finished at the Donetsk border checkpoint, and over 40 trucks have crossed the state border [of Ukraine], starting to move toward Luhansk, deputy head of the crisis management center with the Russian Emergencies Ministry Oleg Voronov said.
A convoy of over 100 vehicles has split into two to deliver aid to the capitals of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's republics. Earlier on Sunday, more than 60 trucks with humanitarian aid on board crossed the Ukrainian border and headed for Donetsk.
According to Voronov, the trucks will deliver a total of 1,200 tons of construction materials, food and other essentials to the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Ukrainian government forces and independence supporters reached a ceasefire on September 5 following several months of intense fighting. Both sides have since routinely accused one another of breaching the truce.
From mid-August to November 16, Russia sent seven humanitarian convoys to help the residents of the Donbas cope with critical humanitarian situation.
