MOSCOW, December 1 (Sputnik) – The US Osan Air Base in South Korea was forced to lock down after reports of an active shooter on school premises.
"Osan American High School, Middle School and Elementary School are on lockdown here, along with the entire installation following reports of an active shooter in the location of the school," a statement, released on the official website of the Osan Air Base Sunday, said.
"Personnel are advised to avoid the area and remain under cover until further notice," the statement added, saying that security forces were sweeping the area but no unusual activity had been detected.
The Osan Air Base is located south of the capital Seoul and is one of several US military bases in South Korea.
Early in October, a US defense official announced the country was considering deploying an advanced missile defense system in South Korea. However, Seoul has not yet received an official request from the United States.
