MOSCOW, December 1 (Sputnik) — A shopping frenzy in the US, kicked off during the Thanksgiving holiday season, continues this week as retailers encourage shoppers to continue buying online, offering them huge discounts and lucrative deals on a day, dubbed Cyber Monday.

The term, coined in 2005, refers to the Monday after Thanksgiving, one of the biggest shopping days in the US, as well as numerous other countries, from Chile to Japan. The day follows Black Friday, the Friday after Thanksgiving, when consumers head to shopping malls to buy much coveted items at a discounted price.

Revenues from online shopping on that day surpass those of Black Friday. "Online is nowhere near its maturity, so Cyber Monday should be big, with a lot of strength in the days leading up to it," said Sucharita Mulpuru, as quoted by the Associated Press. "More consumers are spending more shopping dollars online," the Forester Research analyst added.

Indeed, Americans are expected to spend as much as $2.5 billion on Cyber Monday in 2014, breaking last year’s record, according to a research firm comScore. The British will spend as much as £650 million (over $1 billion) on Monday, according to the Guardian, citing estimates released by IMRG, the UK's industry association for e-retail.

Cyber Monday is a perfect day for great deals on technology, clothing, jewelry, toys, home appliances, etc. Amazon boasts adding new offers each ten minutes. For instance, on Cyber Monday, the US largest Internet-based company offers Samsung 40-inch 1080p LED TV for $298, a 3D printer under for less than $400 or Versace "Dafne" watches starting at 70% off.

For those eager to buy discounted goods but unwilling to shop while at work Walmart has launched Cyber Monday evening addition, promising to unleash fresh discounts in the evening.

Moreover, the emerging trend among retailers is to turn Cyber Monday into a Cyber Week. For instance, Target has announced that over 100,000 items will be on sale from November 30 to December 6. Some of their deals include: Dyson DC35 White Digital Slim cordless vacuum for $199.99, Samsung 40” Smart LED HDTV for $379.99 or 50 percent off top toy licenses, including Star Wars and My Little Pony.
