"Baghdadi's wife, who was detained by the Lebanese army with her son, is Suja Dulaimi who has previously been released out of Syria as part of the agreement on the release of nuns from Maaloula," Lebanese security official told Sputnik.
In March, following negotiations between the Syrian government and Islamists, 13 Greek Orthodox nuns and three of their helpers that had been abducted from their monastery in the Syrian town of Maaloula were swapped for 25 female detainees suspected of aiding armed opposition groups by the Syrian side. Baghdadi's wife was part of this prisoner exchange.
The Islamic State extremist group has been fighting the Syrian government since 2012. In June 2014, the group extended its attacks into northern and western Iraq, declaring a caliphate on the territories over which it had control. A US-led international coalition is currently conducting airstrikes against IS targets both on Iraqi and Syrian territory.
