BRUSSELS, December 2 (Sputnik) — Ukraine does not ask NATO for lethal weapons directly, but discusses this question on a bilateral level with the alliance's member states, Ukrainian Ambassador to NATO Igor Dolgov said Tuesday.
"It is clear that NATO as such does not have lethal weapons to supply to Ukraine. This is a question for bilateral negotiations, Ukraine discusses these questions on a bilateral level non-stop. Today we discussed development of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO," Dolgov said after the NATO-Ukraine Commission (NUC) session.
After the session, the alliance announced the launch of four trust funds for the modernization of the Ukrainian military in logistics, cybersecurity, command, control and communications systems, military medicine and the rehabilitation of injured military personnel.
In April, Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation in the country’s southeast, where independence supporters refused to accept the new government that was put in power following a coup in February. NATO's member states actively backed the post-coup Ukrainian government.
