WASHINGTON, December 2 (Sputnik) – The United States is not involved in the appointment of US national Natalie Jaresko as Ukraine's finance minister, US Department of State spokesperson Marie Harf said Tuesday.
"No, this is a choice for the Ukrainian people and their elect representatives, this is their decision, I do not think we had anything to do with it at all," Harf said at a press briefing when asked if Washington had any relation to the appointment.
Harf added that "it is the beauty of how this process works, the Ukrainian people and their elect representatives are able to pick whoever they want to be part of their government."
On Tuesday, the Ukrainian parliament approved the new cabinet of ministers by 288 votes in favor, with the minimum of 226 votes necessary for the motion to pass.
Among other candidacies, the parliament approved the nomination of three foreign technocrats – US-born Natalie Jaresko as finance minister, Georgian-born Aleksandr Kvitashvili as health minister and Lithuanian-born Aivaras Abromavicius as economics minister. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko granted them Ukrainian citizenship earlier in the day.
