"We support the earliest possible convening of the Minsk meeting," the source said.
Earlier on Wednesday, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, who represents Ukraine in the Contact Group, said their next meeting could be held next week.
The crisis in Ukraine escalated in April, when Kiev authorities launched a military operation against independence fighters in eastern Ukraine.
The warring sides reached a ceasefire deal in Minsk at a Contact Group meeting comprising representatives from Ukraine, the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk people's republics, Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation (OSCE) in Europe. The Minsk Protocol, signed on September 5, specified an immediate ceasefire. However, it has been frequently violated by Kiev and independence supporters.
