WASHINGTON, December 5 (Sputnik) – The United States and the European Union are going to expand bilateral cooperation in the sphere of cybersecurity, the US State Department has announced in a statement, ahead of a US-EU Cyber Dialogue meeting.
"The inaugural meeting of the 2014 US-EU Cyber Dialogue on December 5, 2014 will formalize and broaden cooperation on cyber issues as envisioned during the US-EU Summit," the statement, released Thursday, said.
According to the State Department, the United States and the European Union work in close coordination on cyber-related issues both bilaterally and in "multilateral fora".
Cybercrime costs the United States about $100 billion annually, according to Intel Security and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
The US Department of Homeland Security estimates that more than 1,000 US businesses have been targeted by cyberattacks.
