PARIS, December 7 (Sputnik) — French President Francois Hollande has discussed attempts to solve the Ukrainian crisis in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to a statement published on the French president's official website Sunday.
“The president of the Republic has discussed the Ukrainian crisis with German Chancellor Angela Merkel this morning, following his yesterday’s meeting with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin. Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel gave their evaluation to the emerging prospects of progress,” the statement said.
Earlier in the day, Hollande also had a phone conversation with Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko, the French president’s administration said.
Hollande made a surprise visit to Moscow on Saturday and held a short meeting with his counterpart Vladimir Putin. The sides have focused on the Ukrainian crisis, Iranian nuclear program and the situation in Iraq and Syria. The suspension of the French-made Mistral-class helicopter carriers' delivery to Russia, ordered by Hollande, was not discussed by the two leaders, according to Putin.
