Ukrainian government has approved temporary electricity import from the neighbouring countries, including from Russia.

In June, Moscow switched Kiev to a prepayment system of gas deliveries in light of Kiev's gas debt of more than $5 billion. Since then, Ukraine has been receiving gas through reverse flows from several European countries and using its own reserves. - Sputnik International
Ukraine to Start Extraction of Paid-up Russian Gas Monday: Energy Minister
MOSCOW, December 7 (Sputnik) — Ukrainian government has approved temporary electricity import from the neighbouring countries, including from Russia, statement on Ukraine’s Ministry of Fuel and Energy website said on Sunday.

“In order to avoid the electricity cut-offs, Ukrainian government has agreed with the existing proposal of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy. This is stated in a corresponding instruction from Ukrainian government dated December 5, 2014. The document says that the temporary import of electric power from the adjacent countries is going to be carried out by Ukrinterenergo”, the statement reads.

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko ordered the country's energy ministry to consider buying electricity from Russia in order to save own resources in mid-November.

Ukraine currently experiences problems with power generation due to coal shortages. After a military operation was launched by Kiev forces against independence supporters in eastern Ukraine, Kiev has lost access to many coal mines.
