KIEV, December 8 (Sputnik) – Ukraine's Opposition Bloc plans to create a "shadow cabinet" that would offer alternative ways of solving problems the country is currently facing, one of the party's leaders, Sergey Levochkin, has announced.
"We will create an opposition government and from that platform we will present the society and the state with the right course of development and the right ways of solving current issues," Levochkin told Inter, a Ukrainian TV channel.
According to Levochkin, the "shadow cabinet" will point out mistakes and cases of corruption within the Ukrainian government. It will unite all those who are not content with the collapsing economy, crime in the streets, pseudo-reforms and the falling quality of life, Levochkin said, adding that the Kiev government will be forced to take the new opposition party into account.
Early parliamentary elections took place in Ukraine on October 26. The Opposition Bloc received 27 seats in Ukraine's parliament, known as the Verkhovna Rada. The Petro Poroshenko Bloc received 132 seats, People's Front gained 82 seats, while Samopomich, Radical Party and Batkivshchyna received 32, 22 and 17 seats, respectively.
On November 21, representatives all the above parties, except for the Opposition Bloc, signed a draft agreement on the creation of a pro-European coalition in the Verkhovna Rada.
On November 27, Ukraine's cabinet stepped down from office. The new cabinet includes three foreign technocrats in key posts such as US-born Natalie Jaresko, who was appointed finance minister.
The practice of "shadow cabinets", most prevalent in the UK, involves a group of opposition spokespeople who form an alternative cabinet to that of the government and whose members "shadow" each member of the country's official cabinet.
