SEOUL, December 9 (Sputnik) – Russia is willing to cooperate with South Korea in a number of areas, including the energy sector, shipbuilding and high technologies, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev said Tuesday.
"We are willing to cooperate in shipbuilding, energy sector, infrastructure development, wood and mineral processing. Apart from mineral resources, our country is interested in collaborating in the high technologies industry," Trutnev said at the Russian-Korean economic forum in Seoul.
He also noted Russia's high potential in such areas as biotechnologies, biochemistry, nuclear physics and genetic engineering.
The presidential plenipotentiary envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District added that the turnover between Russia and South Korea has increased by 13 percent over the period of nine months in 2014 compared to the previous year, while the level of Russian export rose by 29 percent.
"At the same time, we are confident that our cooperation can develop even faster," Trutnev said.
Chairman of Korea International Trade Association (KITA) Han Duck-Soo reminded that Russia was one of the top ten trade partners of South Korea, pointing out the importance of Russia's Far East for the Asian country as a region with the infrastructure for the delivery of energy and mineral resources.
The economic forum in Seoul is taking place on December 9 and is dedicated to the matters of South Korea's cooperation with Russia's Far East.
