MOSCOW, December 9 (Sputnik) — FIFA, the governing body for world soccer, has fined three Indonesian clubs for publishing secret transfer information via Twitter, Associated Press reports.
The sanctions became the first in FIFA history to be imposed for such media offenses.
According to FIFA, the clubs were punished for "breaching their obligation to keep data contained within the FIFA Transfer Matching System strictly confidential."
Persebaya Surabaya and Persires Bali Devata were each fined $25,800 for publishing confidential information. PSIS Semarang was slapped with a fine of $15,500 for "republishing those tweets and publishing a confidential letter sent [to] them by FIFA TMS."
FIFA’s online monitoring was aimed at cleaning up international transfer finances, and has become mandatory for all cross-border deals since 2010.
Both trading clubs must provide the same financial data before FIFA approves a deal.
