WASHINGTON, December 10 (Sputnik) — A resolution, passed by the US House of Representatives, condemning Russia is provocative and shortsighted, US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher has said in a statement.
He added that the resolution was "tantamount to a declaration that Russia is America's enemy".
The US House of Representatives voted last week to pass a non-binding resolution "strongly condemning the actions of the Russian Federation, under President Vladimir Putin, which has carried out a policy of aggression against neighboring countries, aimed at political and economic domination". Rohrabacker was one of 10 representatives who voted against it.
In the statement outline why he voted against the resolution, Rohrabacher said that the United States was likely to work with Russia to resolve more pressing threats, such as terrorism.
The US House of Representatives regularly passes non-binding resolutions, which do not carry any legal or legislative powers.
Former Republican congressman Ron Paul has called Resolution 758 "one of the worst pieces of legislation ever", adding that it represented war propaganda and was reminiscent of the one legislation.
