Vladimir Putin arrives in New Delhi, where Russia and India will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss cooperation in energy and military issues.

MOSCOW, December 11 (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in New Delhi, India, where he will discuss cooperation in energy and military – technical spheres with the country's authorities.

It is expected that following the results of negotiations more than 20 deals will be signed, which should give an impetus to the relations between the two countries amid decreasing commodities turnover and a slow economic growth in Russia, due to the Western sanctions and world oil prices downturn.

In particular, agreements may be reached on India's participation in the development of potentially productive Siberian oil and gas fields and in the high-tech project to develop a fifth generation fighter jet, as well as in the areas of nuclear energy and processing of diamonds.

The key point of Putin's program in New Delhi will be a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took office this year. The two leaders met earlier on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Brazil and G20 in Australia.

In addition to that, the leaders' joint participation in the International Diamond Conference is planned.

Putin is also scheduled to meet with the President of India Pranab Mukherjee, chairman of the opposition party, the Indian National Congress, Sonia Gandhi and representatives of Russian and Indian business community.

Earlier on Tuesday, Putin said in an interview with the Indian Information Agency PTI that Russia wants to become a reliable energy supplier to the Asian markets in order to diversify the destinations of its energy deliveries.
