WASHINGTON, December 13 (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday in Rome to discuss the situation in the Middle East, as well as in Ukraine, US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said.
On Friday, Lavrov and Kerry discussed recent developments in Israel in a telephone conversation, US State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said.
“The Secretary also spoke this morning with Foreign Minister Lavrov. They discussed the situation in the Middle East, including recent developments in Israel, the West Bank, Jerusalem and the region, as well as current initiatives at the UN,” Psaki stated at a daily press briefing.
Lavrov and Kerry last met in the framework of the 21st OSCE Ministerial Council in Basel in the beginning of December. The sides focused on the Ukrainian situation, future plans for the Iranian talks, Syrian crisis and the campaign aimed at battling the Islamic State militant group, which has seized large territories in Iraq and Syria.
