Scottish National Party May Double Its Share at 2015 UK General Election

MOSCOW, December 14 (Sputnik) — The Scottish National Party (SNP) may over double its 2010 General Election result in Scotland, taking over voters who used to cast their ballots for the Labour party, Sky News reported Sunday, citing an exclusive analysis prepared by the British Election Survey (BES) for the news outlet.

"Labour look set to lose a quarter of a million voters to the SNP in Scotland — out of just over a million voters last time," Sky News quoted Oxford University's James Dennison as saying.

The analysis shows that following the Scottish independence referendum held in September, the SNP may receive some 42 percent of the vote in 2015, compared to 19.9 percent the party garnered at the 2010 general election.

According to the BES, Scottish Labour party is losing its voter to SNP. The poll showed that 28 percent of Scots who said they would vote for the SNP in 2015, gave their votes to the Labour party in 2010. This may lead to the Labour party receiving only 27 percent of the Scottish votes.

On September 18, Scotland held a referendum on breaking away from the United Kingdom. Over 55 percent of the population voted against independence.
