MOSCOW, December 17 (Sputnik) – Police in Sydney arrested a man wearing a gas mask and shouting threats on board of a train heading into Sydney on Wednesday, the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) reported.
According to the police, the man will be sent to undergo a mental health assessment. Following the incident, the police searched the entire train before it was deemed safe for it to resume service, the SMH said.
The Australian police have been wary, following the incident in Sydney earlier this week, where a gunman took hostages in one of the city’s cafés. After a 16-hour-long standoff, the police stormed the café and killed the gunman, who has been identified as 50-year-old Iranian refugee and Islamic extremist Haron Monis. During the incident two hostages were also killed.
