WASHINGTON, December 17 (Sputnik) – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Rajiv Shah announced Wednesday his resignation in mid-February 2015.
"It was with mixed emotions that I informed President Obama and Secretary Kerry that I will step down as Administrator in mid-February 2015," Shar said in a statement on the USAID website.
He thanked US President Barack Obama for the "honor of serving our country" on the position of the agency's administrator.
He noted that with a new model of development, USAID managed to achieve significant results, including fight against hunger, female education, tackling climate-related issues, and fight for civil society and democracy.
USAID is a governmental agency in the United States, formed in 1961 that directs its efforts toward ending extreme poverty around the world and helping democratic societies realize their full potential, according to the agency's website.
Shah has served as the administrator in the agency for the past five years, leading the efforts of some 10,000 staff located in more than 70 countries.
