MOSCOW, December 18 (Sputnik) – The international payment system Visa continues to offer services on a regular basis and has no plans on blocking cards used in Russian banks, the company’s press service told RIA Novosti.
In the spring, the payment systems Visa and MasterCard stopped servicing Russian banks in response to US sanctions against Russian banks “Rossiya” and SMP Bank. Subsequently, it was unclear whether the payment systems would continue to provide payment processing services within Russia.
Earlier this week, rumors that Visa cards were no longer working in Russia and that they had been blocked were circulating throughout social media.
“Visa is aware about recent media articles regarding the company’s work in Russia. Visa continues to provide payment processing services in Russia as usual,” Visa’s spokesman said.
“Russia is an important market for Visa, and we continue to work with our clients and partners to support the growth of electronic payments in Russia,” the spokesman added.
