WASHINGTON, December 18 (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama is anticipated to sign a bill, stipulating the provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine and imposing new sanctions on Russia on Thursday, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said.
"I anticipate that it will be today," Earnest said when asked whether or not Obama was going to sign the Ukraine Freedom Support Act on Thursday.
However, Earnest underlined that signing the bill by Obama does not imply immediate imposing of new anti-Russian sanctions.
On Wednesday, US State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said that in spite of the bill the US policy of not arming Ukraine with lethal weapons remained unchanged.
The Ukraine Freedom Support Act was passed in both chambers of US Congress last week.
