UNITED NATIONS, December 18 (Sputnik) – The 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly has adopted a Russia-proposed resolution on combating glorification of Nazism with 133 votes in favor Thursday.
The resolution condemns attempts to glorify Nazi ideology and to deny war crimes, committed by Nazi Germany in the past century and to fuel contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia.
The United States, the Republic of Palau, Canada and Ukraine are the only countries to vote against the resolution. 51 countries abstained from voting.
On November 21, the UN Third Committee has passed the resolution for the formal approval of the General Assembly.
The day after that vote, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hope that the resolution would send clear message to the countries to take most urgent steps to tackle increasing glorification of the Nazi ideology.
