Donetsk People's Republics chief negotiator Denis Pushilin hopes that Kiev and the eastern Ukrainian republics will eventually agree on all issues and meet in Minsk before the New Year.

MOSCOW, December 19 (Sputnik) — The Kiev government and self-proclaimed eastern Ukrainian republics of Donetsk and Luhansk (DPR and LPR) failed to set the date of the next round of Ukraine reconciliation talks during a video conference Friday, a DPR negotiator said.

"No date has been set yet, a number of issues are yet to be agreed before the meeting," DPR chief negotiator Denis Pushilin told reporters.

"We hope that we will eventually agree on all issues and meet in Minsk before New Year"s," he said.

More video linkups may be needed to finish the agenda setting for the next reconciliation talks, he added.

Earlier this week, Pushilin said that it would be useful for the sides to hold a Skype conference prior to meeting at the negotiating table in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, on Sunday, December 21. The date for the talks was announced by Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko on Monday.

The so-called Contact Group on Ukrainian reconciliation, comprising representatives of Kiev, independence supporters, Moscow and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), met in Minsk in September, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement between the warring sides.

Despite the agreement, the sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce since then.

In early December, Poroshenko announced a "silence regime" in the country's southeastern regions beginning December 9. The ceasefire regime was expected to be followed by another Contact Group meeting in Minsk on December 12, which was put off to give the sides more time for additional preparations.
