MINSK, December 21 (Sputnik) — An additional $455 million may be added to the Belarus budget after the country’s National Bank recently introduced a 30 percent commission on foreign currency exchange, Belarus Deputy Finance Minister Maxim Ermolovich said Sunday.
“Considering daily demand and supply of foreign currency, the income will be about 5 trillion [Belarus] rubles,” or nearly $455 million at the current exchange rates, Ermolovich said an interview with the national Belarus 1 broadcaster.
On Friday, the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus implemented a temporary 30 percent commission on purchasing currency both by legal entities and individuals amid fears of Belarus ruble devaluation, with the income going directly into the budget.
