DONETSK, December 26 (Sputnik) – The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) plans to swap prisoners with Kiev later on Friday, DPR ombudsman Darya Morozova told RIA Novosti.
“Today we will swap 225 our prisoners for 150 Ukrainian [prisoners],” Morozova said without elaborating on the details of the exchange.
Kiev and independence supporters agreed at a Contact Group meeting in Minsk mediated by Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on September 19 to conduct all-for-all prisoner exchanges. Since the agreement, several prisoner exchanges between Kiev and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics have already taken place.
The latest round of Contact Group reconciliation negotiations took place in Minsk on Wednesday.
On Thursday, it was announced that the Kiev government and the self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk agreed to exchange of a total of 375 prisoners.
