MOSCOW, December 26 (Sputnik) – Russia will send its 11th humanitarian aid convoy to war-torn regions of eastern Ukraine in early January, Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov told reporters Friday.
He said the convoy will set off “in the first ten days of 2015.”
On December 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Ukrainian authorities to start building a common humanitarian space to bring security and economic freedom to the crisis-torn regions.
On December 22, the tenth Russian humanitarian aid convoy returned to Russia after delivering some 1,400 tons of aid to southeastern Ukraine.
Since August, Russian humanitarian convoys have delivered more than 13,000 tons of aid to Donbas, which is facing a major humanitarian crisis following a military operation launched by Kiev in April against independence supporters in the region. The convoys have delivered food, water, medication, as well as power generators and construction materials.
