MOSCOW, December 26 (Sputnik) – The latest round of sanctions imposed on Crimea for its reunification is hindering the daily lives of ordinary residents of the Black Sea peninsula, Russia’s envoy to the European Union said Friday.
‘The latest round of sanctions are not directed against the Crimean leadership or businesses, these sanctions de-facto create problems for normal life on the peninsula,” Vladimir Chizhov told reporters.
Following the reunification of Crimea with Russia in March, the European Union, the United States and some other countries introduced several rounds of sanctions against Russia.
The latest round of sanctions, this time targeting Crimea in particular, was introduced by the European Union last week.
On December 18, EU leaders banned all European investment in Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The United States followed with a similar ban on December 19, with an executive order by President Barack Obama also prohibiting the export of goods, technology, or services to and from Crimea.
