Ukraine Plans to Import 1500 MW of Electricity From Russia: Energy Minister
MOSCOW, December 30 (Sputnik) Russian energy holding Inter RAO and Ukrainian state-run power company Ukrinterenergo signed a deal Tuesday to deliver Russian electricity to Ukraine, the Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement.

“The one-year contract comes into force on December 30, 2014, and stipulates scheduled deliveries in equal amounts of up to 1,500 MW,” Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak was quoted as saying in the statement.

Moscow has recently agreed to resume shipping coal and cheap electricity to the cash-strapped Ukraine as it is struggling with energy shortages due to its unsettled gas debt to Russia and a military operation in the coal-rich Donbas region in the country's southeast.

On Sunday, Ukraine's energy ministry said it was ready to sign an agreement with Russia for the supply of electricity at Russian domestic prices that are lower than those in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko also vowed to turn back on the energy taps to Crimea, after the former Ukrainian republic was cut off the grid earlier this month.
