UK "would have some difficulties" with the text of the Palestinian statehood resolution, the UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations said.

UNITED NATIONS, December 30 (Sputnik) — The UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mark Lyall Grant said Tuesday that the UK "would have some difficulties" with the text of the Palestinian statehood resolution.

"There are difficulties with the text, particularly the language on time scales and the language of refugees. We would have some difficulties with the text. We don't know when the vote will be held," Lyall Grant said of the amended draft resolution on Palestine Speaking before a Security Council meeting.

UNSC to Vote Palestinian Draft Resolution by Wednesday: Envoy
Grant's statement comes as Palestine's Permanent Observer to the UN Riyad Mansour said that a vote might be held on the Arab Group-supported draft resolution on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Palestinians are seeking the creation of an independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, partially occupied by Israel and the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, and want Israel to withdraw from the Palestinian land it took after the 1967 war.

The Palestinian statehood resolution was presented to the UN Security Council on December 17. It was amended on Sunday following criticism from a number of Palestinian organizations, including Hamas. The new version of the resolution states that East Jerusalem should be the capital of the Palestinian state and that Israel must withdraw from the West Bank by the end of 2017.
