“The US Census Bureau today projected the United States population will be 320,090,857 on January 1, 2015. This represents an increase of 11,345,319, or 3.67 percent, since Census Day 2010,” the statement posted on the department’s website said.
In 2014 alone the US population grew 0.73 percent or by 2.3 million people.
According to the statement, the combination of births, deaths and net international migration increases the US population by one person every 16 seconds.
It is also expected that one new person would immigrate into the United States every 33 seconds in 2015, according to the US Census Bureau projection.
The world population has increased by more than 77 million in 2014, which translates into a 1.08 percent increase. In January 2015, the world population is expected to reach about 7.2 billion people.
