Kiev, Donetsk Representatives to Meet for Reconciliation Talks Monday
DONETSK, January 1 (Sputnik) — There have been no hostilities on New Year's Eve in the capital of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the Donetsk city hall said in a Thursday statement.

"The night between [December] 31 and January 1 in Donetsk passed under the sounds of fireworks, combat operations were not carried out," the city hall stated.

At the same time, DPR independence supporters stated that the "silence regime" was violated six times during the New Year's Eve in the region, including in a suburb of Donetsk.

In April 2014, Kiev launched a military operation against independence supporters in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, who refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new government that came to power after the February coup.

The warring parties reached a ceasefire agreement during a September 5 meeting of the Contact Group in the Belarus capital of Minsk, and signed a memorandum specifying the implementation of the ceasefire on September 19, but have subsequently accused each other of breaking the truce.

On December 9, a "silence regime" was declared in the in the conflict-torn South-East of Ukraine, in a bid to revive peace negotiations.
