BALI, January 2 (Sputnik) – The Russian Embassy in Indonesia has denied statements by local officials that starting from 2015 Russian tourists do not need visas to enter the country.
"Currently, the immigration regime at crossing points in Indonesia for Russians visiting the country as tourists remains the same, namely tourists get a visa on arrival for a period of 30 days at a cost of $35 (with the possibility of subsequently extending the visa for an additional 30 days)," an embassy spokesperson told RIA Novosti Friday.
In November, 2014, several Indonesian ministers promised that starting from 2015 tourists, arriving in the country from Russia, Australia, China, South Korea and Japan would be able to get a free stamp allowing them to stay in Indonesia for 30 days.
In December, Statistics Indonesia, also known as BPS (Badan Pusat Statistics, or Central Agency on Statistics) announced that the number of foreign tourists who visited the country in the first 10 months of 2014 stood at 7,76 million people, which is an almost 9 percent increase from the same period in 2013.
