WASHINGTON, January 2 (Sputnik)- Senate Democratic Majority leader of Nevada Harry Reid will return to Washington, DC, over the weekend despite an injury earlier in the week that left him with numerous broken ribs and bones, the senator's office said on Friday.
"On Thursday, Senator Reid received treatment at University Medical Center in Las Vegas for injuries sustained in an accident he suffered while exercising at home in Henderson," the statement from the senator's office read.
Senator Reid was injured after exercise equipment that he was using broke causing him to fall and "break a number of ribs and bones in his face."
The senator's office says that Reid will be back in the Capital Hill on Tuesday, while his doctors say they are expecting him to fully recover.
"Senator Reid will return to Washington this weekend and be in the office Tuesday as the Senate prepares to reconvene. His doctors expect a full recovery," the statement said.
The 114th Congress will begin its session of the new year on Saturday and will start its formal meeting in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, January 6.
