MOSCOW, January 3 (Sputnik) — Unidentified militants have kidnapped 13 Egyptian Christians in the Libyan city of Sirte, bringing the number of Copts abducted in the country to 20, Aswat Masryia reported Saturday.
Egyptian ambassador to Libya is in talks with local tribal leaders to secure the release of the kidnapped Copts, the media outlet cited an Egyptian Foreign Ministry official as saying.
Last week, seven Egyptian nationals were kidnapped in the same Libyan city.
Egypt has been repeatedly warning its citizens against traveling to Libya as the country is facing a wave of violence since the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi. Libya has seen fierce clashes between numerous militias and pro-government forces.
