MOSCOW, January 6 (Sputnik) — Two people were killed and more than 10 sustained injuries when an elementary school bus collided with a train near the US city of Larimore, local media reported.
A 17-year-old student and the 62-year-old bus driver were killed in the accident, the Grand Forks Herald said. There are no crossing barriers at the intersection where the accident took place but there is a stop sign at which the driver failed to yield, North Dakota Highway Patrol lieutenant Troy Hischer told the newspaper.
According to Hischer, 11 to 12 people sustained injuries in the accident, though the numbers are not final.
The Altru Hospital in Grand Forks said that 10 people were transported to the hospital following the collision. “Five patients have been admitted and three patients are being transferred out,” the hospital informed on its Facebook page.
The train involved in the accident was reportedly empty at the time of the crash.
