WASHINGTON, January 6 (Sputnik) – The US House of Representatives re-elected Republican Congressman of Ohio John Boehner for his third term as Speaker of the House to lead the 114th Congress that his party now controls.
During their first day back in office on Tuesday, House members voted 216 to 164 for Boehner, the Republican Party's speaker-elect versus Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the Democratic Party's speaker-elect.
Earlier on Tuesday, Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky was elected Senate Majority Leader, handing full control to US President Barack Obama's rival party and heralding a two-year period of a divided government.
