MADRID, January 7 (Sputnik) – Spanish police have found 1.5 tonnes of cocaine worth an estimated 150 million euros ($178 million) on a ship allegedly bound from Venezuela to Spain, La Voz de Galicia newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The ship flying the flag of Venezuela has been detained in the Atlantic Ocean about 130 kilometers (80 miles) west of the Republic of Cabo Verde. Nine people are reported to be on board.
49 packets containing cocaine have been confiscated by the Galician authorities.
A total of 16 people linked to the drug smuggling case have been detained. The arrests were carried out by police in the Spanish region of Galicia.
Several well-known drug dealers are reportedly among the detained, including Rafael Bugallo, who has multiple convictions.
