PARIS, January 7 (Sputnik) – French President Francois Hollande announced Wednesday a day of national mourning following a terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine's office in Paris.
"Tomorrow will be the day of national mourning, according to the decree I issued. At noon all state institutions will observe a minute of silence and I call on the whole nation to observe it too. Flags will be lowered to half-mast for three days," Hollande said.
"I would like to express gratitude to [the victims'] families and everyone who was killed or injured as a result of this despicable terrorist attack. Today, they are our heroes," Hollande said.
On Wednesday, three unidentified men opened fire in satirical weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo's office in Paris, killing 12 people. The magazine's editor, Stephane Charbonnier, is among those killed in the attack.
The same day, Hollande said that French authorities would track the perpetrators of the attack down and bring those responsible to justice.
