MOSCOW, January 8 (Sputnik) — A German nurse has admitted murdering 30 patients in his care with cardiovascular medication, The Guardian reported Thursday.
According to the newspaper, the 38-year-old nurse told a court-appointed psychiatrist that he had wanted to demonstrate his resuscitation skills.
The nurse is a suspect in the killing of 178 people in total that were in his care from 2003 to 2005 at Delmenhorst hospital near Bremen in Germany.
The nurse's psychiatrist, Konstantin Karyofilis, was cited by The Guardian as saying that the accused injected cardiovascular medication to cause medical emergency situations that would require him to resuscitate the patients.
The psychiatrist said the nurse felt "fully responsible" for the death of 30 patients, however denied any other murders.
The nurse is said to already be serving a 7.5-year prison sentence after he was convicted of attempted murder in 2008. His previous working experience includes work in other hospitals and a retirement home in Germany.
