MOSCOW, January 8 (Sputnik) — About 88,000 police officers have been mobilized to heighten security in France following the attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Thursday.
"All this has allowed to strengthen the protection of many objects, including the media offices, religious and public institutions, schools, airports, railway stations, tourist attractions," Cazeneuve said at a press conference Thursday.
The precautionary measures came after a series of deadly attacks in Paris that are being treated as terrorist acts.
On Wednesday, armed men with AK-47s burst into the magazine's office. At least 12 people — 10 journalists and 2 police officers — were shot and killed in the incident.
On Thursday, a gunman opened fire near a metro station in Montrouge, a southern suburb of Paris, killing a female police officer and injuring a traffic police officer.
