WASHINGTON, January 8 (Sputnik) – American multinational beverage giant Coca-Cola is planning to cut up to 1,800 jobs globally in the next few months as part of its cost reduction strategy, according to the company’s statement released Thursday.
The company said it began notifying American and some international workers Thursday.
“We do not take decisions about job impacts lightly. We have committed that we will ensure fair, equitable and compassionate treatment of our people throughout this process,” the company said.
The company, that employs about 130,000 workers worldwide, made the decision in an effort to save $3 billion in operational costs, which was announced in October.
Company’s previous job-cutting move took place in 2000, when Coca-Cola fired 5,200 workers. Coca-Cola Company is the world’s largest beverage company that sells products in more than 200 countries.
