PARIS, January 8 (Sputnik) – French authorities intend to allocate one million Euro ($1.2 million) to the Paris-based Charlie Hebdo magazine that was attacked on Wednesday, French Culture Minister Fleur Pellerin said Thursday.
According to French newspaper Les Echos, Pellerin said the magazine was supposed to receive the money as part of an “emergency” public support.
Earlier on Thursday, the Press and Pluralism Fund and the Digital Press Innovation Fund collected $600,000 to help Charlie Hebdo continue publishing.
The Wednesday attack on the magazine by alleged Islamic extremists claimed the lives of 12 people and injured a further 11. According to French Interior Minsiter Bernard Cazeneuve, nine people have been detained in the course of the investigation into the attack.
About one million copies of the next issue of the magazine are expected to be published next week.
