Russia’s Consulate in Istanbul representative declined to confirm media reports that the female suicide bomber who blew herself up in an Istanbul was a Russian citizen.

ANKARA, January 9 (Sputnik) — Russia’s Consulate General in Istanbul on Friday declined to confirm media reports that the female suicide bomber who blew herself up in an Istanbul police station on Tuesday was a Russian citizen.

“Currently we have no information regarding the issue,” a consulate representative told RIA Novosti.

On Thursday, several Turkish media outlets reported that the female suicide bomber who targeted a police station in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul on Tuesday was a Russian citizen. The suicide bomber has been identified as Diana Ramazova, an alleged member of a Chechen terrorist group, according to local media.

One Police Officer Dies, Another Injured in Istanbul Suicide Bomber Attack

The Turkish Revolutionary People's Liberation Party (DHKP-C) has claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed one police officer and injured another.

The Marxist-Leninist DHKP-C, operating since 1978, is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Last week the party carried out a similar terror attack near Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul.
