MOSCOW, January 11 (Sputnik) — Belgian security services have averted several terrorist attacks, Belgium’s Minister of Justice Koen Geens said Sunday.
“We [the authorities] have averted the attacks, I cannot say more,” RTBF TV channel quoted Geens as saying.
Earlier in the day, Belgian Soir newspaper’s office was evacuated after receiving an anonymous bomb threat. Soir was among the newspapers that reprinted cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad created by the French Charlie Hebdo magazine, whose office had come under radical Islamists’ attack earlier this week.
Earlier in the week, Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon said that a terrorist attack threat existed, but added that the country would not heighten its threat level, according to Expatica Belgium.
Belgium's neighbor France has recently been shaken by a series of terrorist attacks. Islamic radicals have killed a total of 17 people in the Paris area over the past week in three different incidents.
