WASHINGTON, January 13 (Sputnik) — US Vice President Joe Biden will host the first Caribbean Energy Security Summit in Washington, DC this month, the White House said in a press release on Monday.
“The Vice President looks forward to welcoming Caribbean leaders and representatives of the international community to promote a cleaner and more sustainable energy future in the Caribbean through improved energy governance, greater access to finance, and donor coordination,” the release said.
The summit will be held on January 26 and will include roundtable discussions with regional leaders, meetings and events with officials, energy companies and multilateral institutions.
Last June Biden announced the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative to foster energy development in the island nations of the Caribbean. The initiative seeks to finance energy diversification in cooperation with the private sector, provide technical assistance and improve regulatory regimes in the region, according to the White House.
