Jan Morgan, owner of The Gun Cave Indoor Shooting Range in Hot Springs, immediately asked the father and son where they were from, the son told the Arkansas Times.
She then informed the men, who are South Asian and live in Hot Springs, about the range’s anti-Muslim policy, and said if they disagreed with it, they should leave.
That led to a conversation about the policy between Morgan and the father.
“Then, all of a sudden, I don’t know what went wrong, but she stopped us from filling out the paperwork and said, ‘I don’t think you guys should be here,’” the younger man said. “She told us to leave or she’d call the cops on us.”
The pair left to avoid any further confrontation.
“We’re brown – I don’t know if she assumed we were Muslim,” the son said. “When she first asked us, she said, ‘I would hope if you were Muslim you guys wouldn’t be cowards and would be up front about it.’”
The father and son had been to the range before, but not since Morgan took over ownership.
In September of last year, Morgan announced that she was banning all Muslims from her business, in the interest of public safety, according to a statement on her website.
She said her studies of the Koran, and its call to compel Muslims to slaughter non-Muslims, led to the policy.
“Since I have no way of discerning which Muslims will or will not kill in the name of their religion and the commands in their Koran, I choose to err on the side of caution for the safety of my patrons,” Morgan stated on her site.
Meanwhile, the son insisted he and his father were simply looking to enjoy "father-son time, guy time."
"I will do whatever is necessary to provide a safe environment for my customers, even at the cost of the increased threats and legal problems this decision will likely provoke,” Morgan’s statement continued.
While the son said neither he nor his father are planning to pursue legal action against Morgan or her range, he felt obligated to speak up about the discriminatory policy.
"It’s definitely crazy that there’s such intolerance," he said.
In a Jan. 8 post on the The Gun Cave Indoor Shooting Range’s Facebook page, Morgan called the ban on Muslims the best decision she has ever made, and vowed never to change the policy.
